I think this is a great idea.  I know with three chickens we get three eggs a day most days and that's more than our family can eat.  So with a few more people doing the same thing, there'd be plenty of eggs to go around, I think.  We love to talk chicken with anyone who's interested in getting started.  It's a lot of fun and not too much work.  So, what's stopping you?!

Hi all,

Was wondering if there has been any more discussion on an egg co-op?  Since I am back in Boise for the summer, I would like to re-new my local food connections.  I know where I can get local eggs but thought I would check with BSLC first to see if there were extra eggs available within the group?  I probably don't need a full dozen a week if that helps....

There's been no official talk but we're hoping to have excess eggs soon.  JMaus has been chicken sitting for us (due to a temporary HOA issue) and we have 14 eggs that are within a couple days of hatching.  Hopefully we'll get a number of hens out of the batch and will find, in addition to JMaus' beautiful new coop, some willing homes and caretakers who are equally willing to share the resulting eggs!

Also, Idaho's Bounty is still going strong and getting stronger and they're always a great source for local, organic eggs.

Thanks Kevin for the info - I will be ordering from Idaho's Bounty this next go around but thought I would check here first.  Speaking of Idaho's Bounty - do we still have a membership with them or do I have to join them also?  If BSLC does, does Anneliese still coordinate the ordering? 

Also, I see that Cloverleaf is part of Idaho's Bounty - how "fresh" is this in comparison to buying it at the Boise Co-op?  I would rather give my purchasing money to IB but not sure how the delivery works for IB - do they use a refrigerator truck to move food from over there (Buhl?) to here or is it just a regular delivery truck (where the milk could get warm?).

We still have the group membership and Anneliese still does the coordinating of the order.  She also has a number of other responsibilities now with IB so get your order in as early as possible.  This order is closed (pickup is tomorrow) but you can start shopping for two weeks from now.

I'd say that Cloverleaf is fresher from IB than the Coop simply because you don't know how long it's been sitting in their (the Coop) cooler.  With IB, it comes from the dairy the very same day you get it packed in ice in large coolers so there's no chance of it getting warm.
