Idaho's Bounty is sponsoring a Treasure Valley Local Farm Tour -
Purple Sage Farms and Mesquite Cattle Company

Visit two successful sustainable farms and celebrate local abundance with a local-foods potluck at the Sommer family home.

DATE: Saturday, May 9, 2009
TIME: Farm Tour 4-6.  Local food potluck 6-8.
LOCATION: 11741 Bullock Road, Middleton, ID 83644

PLACES WE'LL VISIT:
Mesquite Cattle Company ~ Bill and Carol Gale
Purple Sage Farms ~ Tim and Tamara Sommer

These two farms are adjacent to each other and we'll walk a short distance  between them.  So wear appropriate shoes.

Bring a food dish to share, made with local ingredients, and your own place settings and any drinks (wine or beer) for yourself.  Herbal iced tea and coffee will be provided.

Please drop food off at the Sommer home at 11741 Bullock Rd.  Then gather at the greenhouses at 11981 Bullock Rd (corner of Cemetery and Bullock Rd).  The greenhouses have spaces for parking.  We will walk across the road to Bill Gale's pastures and talk about grass fed beef.  We'll then come back to the greenhouses to talk about organic growing.

At 6pm we'll walk back to the Sommer's home to share a meal. We'll be also playing some music and people may bring an instrument if they are so inclined.

Please RSVP to boiseinfo@idahosbounty.org

Several of the BSLC members are planning to bike out to the event (at least 60 miles round trip) - so if interested contact Scott at Scott.Swendsen@gmail.com

Another great farm tour occured this past Saturday - thanks to Tim & Tamara & Bill & Carol for opening up their farms for hungry (to learn and to eat!) visitors to trample thru the fields and greenhouses.  Other than the cow patty I stepped in, nothing could have been better than a nice day spent with our local food producers.

Thanks also to all of the great people that came out to meet and hear about the great food Idaho's Bounty gets from Purple Sage Farms and Mesquite Cattle Company.  I agree with Bill & Tim - I am thinking of a nice grass-fed, well-aged T-bone steak with a nice salad topped by purslane.  Let's eat!

Finally thanks to Idaho's Bounty (Anneliese & others?) for coordinating and pulling this thing together!!

So tell your family, friends, neighbors (and enemies?) to eat fresh and eat local!
